Smart Stair Lighting With Step Lights + Side Running Light
The MALIIGAZA STEP-SP32 is an intelligent motion sensor stair light controller designed for flexible DIY staircase lighting. It can control up to 32 stair steps while also driving a side running light installed along a handrail, wall, or staircase edge.
Build a Stair Lighting System Around Your Space
Instead of limiting you to one fixed kit configuration, STEP-SP32 is designed as a modular stair lighting platform. You can combine the controller with the step count, step-light color, SPI running strip, power supply, wireless wall switch, connectors, extension cables, and other accessories that fit your staircase.
Dual PIR sensors detect movement from the top or bottom of the stairs. When movement is detected, the lighting sequence starts from the corresponding direction, creating an automatic step-by-step lighting effect while the optional side running light can flow together with the staircase illumination.
Core Benefits
Step Lighting + Side Running Light
Create step-by-step staircase lighting while a separate running light travels along the side wall, handrail, or staircase edge.
Up to 32 Stair Steps
Supports staircase installations with up to 32 steps, making the controller suitable for a wide range of indoor residential staircase layouts.
Dual-Direction PIR Detection
Install one PIR sensor at the bottom and one at the top. Bottom detection starts the lighting sequence upward, while top detection starts the sequence downward.
LCD Parameter Display
The built-in LCD screen provides a clear view of controller settings, making configuration easier during installation and adjustment.
Optional Constant-On Wall Switch Control
Add the optional wireless wall switch and change to wireless switch mode when you want the staircase lighting to stay continuously illuminated instead of operating only by motion detection.
Advanced Stair Lighting Control
Flexible LED Strip Compatibility
The stair-step outputs are designed for 12V or 24V single-color LED step lighting.
The SPI lighting function supports compatible 12V or 24V SPI single-color, CCT, RGB, RGBW, and RGBCCT LED strips, with support for up to 1021 pixels.
This flexible architecture allows DIY users to create single-color running effects, colorful RGB-style flowing effects, or more advanced SPI lighting combinations depending on the selected strip.
Recommended Step Light Strip With Extension Cable
For STEP-SP32 stair-step lighting, we also recommend our 24V COB stair light strip with extension cable.
This option is available with 1m or 1.2m LED strips and matching extension cable lengths from 1m to 6m, making it easier to route each step light back to the controller in different staircase layouts.

Three Ways to Build Your Stair Lighting
1. Dynamic Step Lighting
Use individual step light strips to create sequential illumination across the staircase.
2. Side Running Light
Install a compatible SPI strip along a handrail, staircase wall, or side edge for flowing light effects.
3. Step Lighting + Running Light
Combine both systems so the stair steps illuminate while the side running light travels along the staircase at the same time.

Troubleshooting Guide
The lights do not turn on when movement is detected
Check the power supply voltage, PIR sensor connections, step configuration, and daylight sensitivity setting. If the surrounding area is bright, the daylight sensor setting may prevent activation.
The side running light does not align correctly
Verify that the configured pixel number matches the actual pixel count of the connected SPI strip.
One stair channel is not required or is not operating correctly
STEP-SP32 supports independent channel control. The affected step channel can be disabled without shutting down the remaining staircase lighting system.
The lights do not stay continuously on
Constant-on operation requires the optional wireless wall switch and the appropriate wireless switch operating mode.
The system behaves incorrectly after changing components
Confirm that the LED strip voltage and power supply voltage match. Do not use a 12V LED strip with a 24V power supply.
Important Safety and Compatibility Notes
- Never connect the STEP-SP32 controller directly to AC 220V mains power. Direct AC connection can immediately damage the controller.
- The controller must be powered through a suitable 12V or 24V DC power supply.
- The LED strip voltage and power supply voltage must match.
- Do not connect a 12V LED strip to a 24V power supply.
